Review: Alt/Saglio

Wynn Dan, the creator of Alt/Saglio: Quotes + Citations, kindly sent me a copy of his beautiful book for review and it is my pleasure to share it here with you. A limited edition artist's book with only two runs of 100 each printed thus far, Alt/Saglio collects the best street photographs of Vogue Paris editors Emmanuelle Alt and Géraldine Saglio as well as humorous and provocative quotations. Sources for the quotations include Roger Vadim, J.D. Salinger, Bob Marley, Luis Buñuel, Coco Chanel, and Emmanuelle herself: "Forget trendy designer labels. Jeans, a sweater or a tshirt worn under a jacket that seems welded to you. When it's just right, when you don't see the effort, it's irresistible."

Why did the author choose to focus on Emmanuelle and Géraldine? Monsieur Dan responds, "If I could have any girlfriend I wanted in the world, I wouldn't pick a model; I would pick someone like that, because I think they're intelligent and stylish and beautiful. I work in fashion, but I'm an art director; I'm not a fashion person. I like Emmanuelle's style because it's more boyish, in a way, yet sexy at the same time." Clearly he is happy that his ideal girlfriend is now running Vogue Paris: "I don't know. I think it's better. I think it will be great."

Monsieur Dan has created other intriguing artist's books such as 100 Pages: Words + Pictures, Text\Image Collection, Typo Graphic Foto Graphic, Yabe Project, Graphic Paintings, and Camille Bidault-Waddington.

I would LOVE to get a copy of this book. I understand the need to preserve its rarity, But it would still be great to print a larger run of it. The graphics are gorgeous.

Simonde, try Colette for a copy, I know the author plans to print another run soon. The book really is superb, a handsome tribute made with taste.

I had someone go to Colette this past week to see if Alt/Saglio was available and, if not, whether another print run would be made. Sadly the news is that there are no copies available and they do not plan to do another printing! If there is ANY way I can get my hands on this book I am willing to go above and beyond to do so. Please pass on any info you have. I know that there is demand for another run and I encourage the author and Colette to try and do one.

I just clicked the link to email the author and request a copy. I am new to iwanttobeanalt and it has quickly become my favorite blog! I am the mother of two small children and had completely lost my inspiration for fashion. I have once again found it with this fantastic website and Ms Alt's wonderful easy style! Who says you can't look chic and be comfortable in the carpool line!
